SAFETY NOTICE

Your child's safety is our number one priority! PLEASE help us keep you and your child safe by making sure you always use the cross walk when attempting to cross the street. Please watch our Safety Patrol and cross the street when the Safety Patrol signals that it is safe.

We know it is very difficult to enter and exit our parking lot at peak times and we ask that reserved parking is left for our staff and that you park on the street if you are volunteering or visiting our school.

Thank you for your continued support!

STUDENT ALLERGIES

We have many students that have been diagnosed with severe allergies to common things such as peanuts, fish, tree nuts, milk, gluten, grass, bee stings, etc. Allergic reactions range from mild skin irritation to anaphylactic shock. Peanuts and tree nuts produce the strongest reactions for our students. Staff personnel have taken steps to keep our students as safe as possible while they are at school, but once again we are asking for assistance form our community. Please screen the items that you send with your child for snack and/or lunch - even trace amounts of the above items can have very serious consequences. We appreciate your assistance in helping to keep our environment as safe as possible for all of our students.

Start Proud Program

Martin Elementary has been chosen as 1 out of 9 schools across the country to participate in Office Depot's "Start Proud" program.  This means that all of our students will receive a back pack filled with classroom supplies.  Each of our families will also receive $20
gift card in which you can use to purchase other classroom supplies.  As part of the program, each classroom teacher will also receive supplies they can use for the year.  So please keep this in mind as you prepare to purchase items for the upcoming school year.

We will have a school wide assembly on the first day of school, August 15th where your student will receive their backpacks and gift cards.  I have attached the letter regarding this program for your reference.

AAA Sponsored Day on the Field for Safety Patrol

SSFUSD Board of Trustees pass Resolution for Ruby Bridges Day!!!

Spearheaded by the 5th grade students, they set on a mission to be a positive force in our community and spread the bravery of one Ruby Bridges who was the symbol of the civil rights movement at the age of six.  The courage of Ms. Bridges who was the youngest of a group of African American students were in full display as they attended a school that was not integrated at that time.  This bravery had left a powerful and lasting impression with our students as they wanted to honor her courage and the change that followed as far as providing equality in our education system.  The students were able to gather over 1,000 signatures from students, parents, and community members and submitted a proposal to our Board of Trustees.  On May 10, 2018, all Board of Trustees present voted unanimously to pass the resolution and making November 14th as Ruby Bridges Day at SSFUSD.  The way we can honor this day, we are looking for 100% attendance in our school district.

We want to thank all of the students, parents, community members, and school district leaders for being able to show their support and making the Ruby Bridges Day happen.  Go Meteors....and let us circle November 14, 2018 on our calendars.....let us aim for 100% attendance!!!

LCAP Parent Survey

Dear South San Francisco Unified School District Community Member,

Under California's new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), South San Francisco Unified School District must create a Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) in conjunction with community members. Therefore, we need your input. The School Board, Superintendent Moore and staff value your opinions about South San Francisco Unified School District, so please take a few minutes to complete this brief survey.

It is crucial that your voice is heard as we work together to meet the needs of all South San Francisco Unified School District students. Your candid feedback will help us make decisions and plan for programs and services that best reflect the needs of our students and community.

Your time and consideration are greatly appreciated.

About Peachjar eflyers

In the past, our schools sent home loads of flyers in students’ backpacks. As part of our efforts to be more environmentally friendly and to embrace innovative technology, we have moved from paper to a digital flyer delivery.

With our Peachjar eflyer program, the eflyers will be sent directly to parents’ email inboxes as well as posted on school websites for easy access. All flyers may be accessed by clicking on the  logo.

Each year, our schools will save tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. In addition, paperless delivery of school flyers removes a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers.

School and school district-approved eflyers will keep you informed about upcoming school activities, programs, and events. And our children's backpacks will be a little bit lighter!

Math in Action: Chocolate Factory

Martin Elementary Construction

Pardon our dust during our construction project.  As we move through the different phases of the construction project, we will update the safe passageway on our campus.  Please be aware that the Staff Parking Lot will be closed for morning drop off and afternoon pick up due to the limited space.  There are only enough parking for staff members, so guests will also have to secure legal street parking.

Until we move to the next phase of the project, as of August 16,  ALL morning drop off and afternoon pick up will be in front of the school (School Street).  For the safety of our staff, parents, and students, please make sure to follow this temporary procedure.  To avoid congestion of traffic both morning and afternoon; come early to avoid being rushed, if early enough...find legal street parking, and/or follow the drop off/pick up valet line that Safety Patrol will be enforcing.

This is only temporary and as soon as the construction project allows us, we can open up the access to the staff parking lot.  I want to thank you in advance for understanding and with your help we can continue to ensure the safety of everyone in our school campus.

Congratulations to Ms. Flores for receiving the district's Golden Apple Award!!!!
